Mark McCloughan will read at Lines + Stars

Mark McCloughan will read at the Lines + Stars Winter Reading and Reception on January 17th (see events calendar for more details). He published is debut chapbook, No Harbor, with L+S Press in 2014.

McCloughan, a Philadelphia writer, creates original performance works as part of No Face Performance Group. His poems have appeared in Lines + Stars and Ostranenie.  Below is a video of one of his performances called “Ape School” —

Beltway Poetry Sonnet, Deborah Ager, others reading

The Beltway Poetry Quarterly is sponsoring a reading celebrating its Beltway Poetry Sonnet issue. Contributions featured are from Holly Bass, Holly Karapetkova and Melanie Henderson, editors Kim Roberts and Michael Gushue, and special guest Deborah Ager

From her website Ager “is an author, anthology editor, and founder of a magazine. She wrote Midnight Voices (2009) and co-edited The Bloomsbury Anthology of Contemporary Jewish American Poetry (2013) and Old Flame: Ten Years of 32 Poems Magazine (2012). She founded 32 Poems in 2003 and ran it, alongside John Poch, until 2012 or so.”

The event will be at the West End Library Annex at the Watergate on January 22nd from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Free admission.

Split this Rock & the O.B. Hardison Poetry Series co-sponsoring poetry reading

This just in – The O.B. Hardison Poetry Series and Split This Rock are co-sponsoring this year’s free poetry reading in honor of the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. On Monday, January 19th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., a diverse group of poets will respond to the question of ” Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?” King used this question as the title to his fourth and final book.

The poetry reading will be followed by an open-mic.

Special note: In the spirit of the day, food donations will be taken for the food pantry of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation (which is right across from the Folger Shakespeare Library.

The event will be held at the Haskell Center, 301 East Captiol Street SE, Washington, D.C. 20003.
